Max Planck's
Adventure Deep Sea
When Marina, Max and Molly set sail, there is always a lot to discover. In the new Max Planck science comic series Deep Sea Adventure, we show you with lovingly illustrated stories how diverse life is in our seas. We live in the age of information and believe that the world has been largely explored. Not at all! The map of our knowledge has many blank spots. Around 95% of the world's oceans are still unexplored.
In Deep Sea Adventure, you and the Deep Sea crew embark on an adventurous journey to the seabed and back. How important the smallest sea creatures are for the entire ecosystem and ultimately for our planet is regularly made clear. When, for example, seagrass meadows bind CO2 with the help of bacteria or mussels and tube worms use toxic sulfur gases as a source of food, then our three heroes know how and why it works. In order to unravel the secrets of the largest ecosystem on earth, researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology are studying the smallest of sea creatures: single-celled organisms. And they may be small but they're mighty! Because these artists of life manage to survive even in the absolute darkness of the deep sea.
In the first volume of Adventure Deep Sea, Max, Marina and Molly go in search of clues at a depth of over 3000 meters. Along the Mid-Ocean Ridge, a mountain range in the deep sea that spans the earth, underwater volcanoes, the so-called black smokers, are the only source of energy for miles around.
Great Explanatory Spectacle
The Explainatorium
In the Explainatorium, questions from science, technology and society are presented and explored in an entertaining way. And of course, we don't beat around the bush. Sometimes we get down to the nitty-gritty. What goes into the sausage, where does the straw end up after the party and why are smartphones not actually that smart? The stories are led by an illustrious group who can be seen as the alter egos of the makers of the Explainatorium. Professor Päp, the monkey Lämmy and his roommates rush straight into the big and small questions of our universe. The interested readers not only get some enjoyable entertainment, but also regularly get useful small talk material for the next party. Basically the perfect smart-ass format.

Chewing, pooping, sewage treatment plant
Everything has to come out: Chewing, shitting, sewage plant! A real sh*t title? But this is not just about the most basic needs, but, as always in the Explainatorium, also about the bigger picture. We take you on a fascinating journey through the body, behind closed toilet doors, through the sewer system and into the sewage treatment plant. In the first edition of the Explainatorium you will find out what transformation schnitzel, cakes and lunchboxes go through in our digestive tract, where the sausage rushes off to when we flush the toilet and how wastewater becomes drinking water again.
