Exhibition stand in the German Pavilion

The World Expo took place in the metropolis on the Yangtze from May 1st to October 31st, 2010. "City of Innovation" - that is the motto of the Bremen exhibition stand in the German Pavilion. Here, the smallest federal state presents itself with a cornucopia of innovative research results for a climate-friendly future. As one of the central research institutions in the state of Bremen, Hochschule Bremen places a special focus on bionics and in particular research work on the subject of antifouling. A thematically designed exhibit table illustrates the research work on artificial shark skin and the knowledge gained from it.

Interactive Presentation on Bionics research

An integrated touchscreen provides further information on the research project, the bionics degree program and the Hochschule Bremen. When visitors approach the exhibit table, a trailer invites them to explore the information on offer. When touched, the trailer loop is interrupted and visitors are taken to a silhouette-like overview matrix. When designing the bilingual touchscreen application, particular attention had to be paid to intercultural viewing habits.

Best Implementation of the Expo theme

The German Pavilion was a colossal success, winning the award for the best implementation of the Expo theme "Better City, Better Life". Equally, the joint stand of Bremen, Bremerhaven and Oldenburg was able to draw an extremely positive balance. From May to October, over a million visitors shared the vision of a better city and found out about projects in the areas of car sharing and electromobility, among other things. A special highlight was the presentation by Hochschule Bremen and the Bionics Innovation Center on non-toxic antifouling, developed in collaboration with us. According to Ulrike Hövelmann, stand manager of the Bremen EXPO stand in the Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA), the shark is the most popular exhibit at the exhibition. "We regularly survey our visitors and therefore know that the shark is the most popular exhibit among the masses. It is photographed and admired all day long without a break," says Ulrike Hövelmann.
